Youth Education
Children have choices for Sunday worship and are always welcome to stay for all parts of worship.
The Youth Education Program at Old Whalers’ is fun, active and engaging. Currently Sunday School meets the second and fourth Sunday of each month. Kids of all ages attend the first part of the Sunday service, are part of a youth message and often sing a song or two together. They then leave the service and go to the Kid’s Room with our teachers for an activity that corresponds to the message of the day. When the service is over everyone joins the congregation in the social hall for a delicious and enjoyable time of fellowship.
Fun activities are often planned for our kids-Outdoor Games, Movie Night, Rally Day, Palm Processions, planting, crafts, Scavenger Hunt, “Souper-Bowl” and more. As this program evolves, we hope to add more activities for our teens as well.
On the first and third Thursdays of each month at 4 PM families come together in our Kid’s Room and Chapel for “Soulful Songs and Stories” and “Youth Ukulele”. This is a time lead by Rev. Nancy, when we sing and dance, hear stories, and share together. This is a fun and inspiring time and a wonderful way to build community and spend time together. Everyone is welcome.
Our Youth Ukulele program has been open to children in 4th grade and older. Students meet after “Soulful Songs and Stories” and learn new songs and techniques on the Ukulele. Our goal is for them to perform songs occasionally at Sunday services and learn an amazing lifelong musical skill. Ukuleles are provided for use and home practice.
At Old Whalers’ we understand the importance a positive and active relationship to spirituality for our kids. We believe in the importance of and active and loving community. We hope that your children will find this a wonderful place to learn and grow and experience life together. Everyone is welcome.
