Raffle Tickets - Posted On: Thursday, August 28, 2014

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO SELL WHALERS’ BUCKS RAFFLE TICKETS!                   

Some of our members have been selling our raffle tickets on Main Street on Friday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.,   Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and Sundays from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.  We plan to continue to do this throughout September. If you would like to volunteer, please see Lisa Arnister (lga838@otponline.net). We’ll provide you with everything you need!

            We have received permission to sell tickets at the King Kullen in Bridgehampton on Saturdays between 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and on Sundays from 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. throughout September. Volunteers wouldn’t need to stay the entire time. Stay as long as you are able..

Whalers Bucks Raffle - Posted On: Sunday, May 04, 2014

                        THE WHALERS’’ BUCKS RAFFLE IS BACK!!!

 Tickets are on sale for the Whalers’’ Bucks Raffle which benefits the Community House Fund at Old Whalers’’ Church and the Sag Harbor Community Food Pantry. With help from members and friends, we hope to make this year’’s raffle another success! As in the past two years, each ticket purchased ($50.00) enters you into the raffle and admits two to the Whalers’’ Gala /raffle drawing to be held on Saturday, October 4 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.. Prizes are as follows: Top Prize - $10,000, 2nd Place - $5,000, 3rd Place - (5 winners) - $1,000. Tickets are available in the church office or please speak to Terry Brandt, Pat Brandt, or Lisa Arnister.

        This fall we invite you to join us on a journey that will challenge and change you. A journey that will expand - and very likely - redefine your understanding of the person, teachings, and life of Jesus Christ. One that will lead you beyond familiar images of Christ to discover Jesus as you have never known him: radical, compelling, compassionate, bold, incisive, and ultimately satisfying. Using Philip Yancey’s best selling book, The Jesus I Never Knew, we will peel away popular stereotypes to present a brilliant and fascinating portrait of Christ.  Copies of the book are aavailable in the church office.  All are welcome!

 FALL YARD SALE: Saturday, September 20

  On Saturday, September 20, 2014, we are planning to hold the fourth annual Old Whaler’s Church Yard Sale! In order for this event to run smoothly and continue to be successful , we need many volunteers.   We are very grateful that Patricia Behrens and Gillian Kluge have agreed to coordinate this year’’s sale. We would appreciate it if you would start putting aside items that you would like to donate. Please note that we will not be able to accept TV’’s or computer equipment over 3 years old, VHS tapes, paperback books, children’’s used toys, baby car seats, cribs, high chairs, etc., mattresses, Venetian blinds & large upholstered furniture such as couches, chairs, and recliners. Since we do not have any storage area at the church, we are asking everyone to keep the items at their homes until Wednesday, September 17. We will gladly accept all donations after that time! For more information or to find out how you can help, please speak to either Gillian or Patricia





Help is needed in the following areas:

    Assistance the week before the sale with unpacking, organizing, pricing and setting up tables. We will begin setting up on Wednesday evening, September 17.  



 
 Volunteers to help with the  Bake Sale which is held the morning of the sale  and bakers to prepare goodies and jams. Contact Louise Gazda.



 Volunteers to work the day of the sale helping customers, cashing out, wrapping people’s purchases and helping to carry big items to their cars



 Help Saturday afternoon with clean up

    If you are willing and able to help in any way for any length of time,  or for more information please contact Patricia Behrens or Gillian Kluge as soon as possible.


   BAKE SALE AT THE YARD SALE!

As you may already know, the church Yard Sale on Saturday, Sept. 20th also has a Bake Sale. Won't you please consider donating some of your home-baked goodies? Or, jams, jellies, etc. And if you don't bake yourself, maybe you know someone who does and would be willing to contribute. The baked items may be brought to the church Friday or early Saturday morning. (Please mark for "bake sale") . Thank You!

    ANNUAL BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS SERVICE

                                                Sunday, October 5, 2014 - 1:00 p.m.

This special service will commemorate the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, October 4. St. Francis was a great lover and protector of all of God's creatures. This celebration is a witness to God's and the church's love, care, and concern for "all things bright and beautiful, all creatures great and small." All members and friends of the congregation are encouraged to bring their pets to the church for this brief service and for a special blessing. Yes, all two-footed and four-footed friends are welcome!

              LONG ISLAND PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN FALL  RETREAT                                      

 The Presbyterian Women of Long Island Presbytery are holding their annual fall retreat Tuesday, October 7 and Wednesday October 8 right here in Sag Harbor at Cormaria. The theme year is “Radical Hospitality.” Retreat leaders are : Rev. Holly Haile Davis,  Rev. Kathy Nealand, and Rev. Terri Orfoi. Tuesday check-in time is 12:30 p.m.. Program starts at 1:00 p.m.. Program ends with lunch on Wednesday. Costs: Overnight: Tuesday and Wednesday - Program and 3 meals - $95.00; Tuesday: Program and Dinner - $30.00; Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. - Program and Lunch - $30.00. Registration is due by September 29. Registration forms are available in the church office.

 

Nursery - Posted On: Thursday, August 28, 2014
NURSERY VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

             At one time, Old Whalers’ provided nursery care on Sunday mornings during the worship service. For many years, the nursery was staffed by volunteers and then by paid employees. This provided an opportunity for parents of infants and very young children to worship while their children were well cared for. Three years ago, due to financial challenges, the Session had to eliminate the paid nursery worker position. We made several attempts to staff the nursery with adult volunteers but had very limited success. In an effort to be a welcoming church for all ages, the Session wishes to explore the possibility of providing nursery care again on Sunday mornings. If any of our members would like to volunteer for a week or two each month, please speak to Rev. Mark Phillips. Two people are needed - one of whom is a responsible adult.

   In an effort to better care for our members and friends, please notify the church office if you (or a family member) are hospitalized. The hospitals no longer contact the churches and the only way we can be of help to you is if we are notified.

Our Chancel Choir & Bells are

If you have ever given any thought to ringing in the bell choir or singing in the choir NOW is the perfect time to join!  We will be starting to work on all of our music for the fall and could use some additional ringers and singers.

Those interested in singing in the choir should speak with Dominick Abbate, choir director and anyone wishing to ring with the bell choir should speak to director David Cummings.
